MSI Unveils Groundbreaking 500Hz OLED Gaming Monitor: The Future of Speed is Here!

In the realm of PC gaming displays, there is no such thing as being too rapid. Although traditional monitors achieved the 500Hz refresh rate a few years back, high-end OLED displays have yet to attain such velocities. MSI aims to accomplish this sometime in 2025, alongside a few other OLED firsts set to be unveiled ahead of CES 2025.

This particular display is the MPG 272QR QD-OLED X50 (what a name!) featuring a 27-inch screen and a resolution of 1440p, with a response duration of just 0.03ms, and that impressive 500Hz refresh rate. Curiously, MSI is marketing this monitor as suitable for “all the mainstream gamers out there.” Who really identifies as “mainstream” while achieving 500 frames per second at 1440p?

No pricing details have been disclosed yet for this display. Other specifications are rather limited in the announcement, but a comprehensive list is available on this promotional page. Key features include support for DisplayPort 2.1a and USB-C with 98 watts of Power Delivery.

In addition to MSI’s pre-CES announcements is the MPG 272URX, a 27-inch OLED that surpasses the standard resolution with its 4K display, although you will have to settle for “only” 240Hz refresh. There is also the MPG 322URX, a 32-inch 1440p variant that also achieves 240Hz. Both displays are compatible with DisplayPort 2.1a.

The MPG 321URXW is yet another 32-inch model, advertised as “a premium gaming display with a breathtaking silver-white design.” According to this promotional page, it boasts a 4K resolution at 240Hz and USB-C input with 90 watts of Power Delivery, but keep in mind that the DisplayPort is the older 1.4 version. As is customary, pricing and retail launch dates have not been provided — I would anticipate those details appearing by mid-2025.
