I despise photography resolutions. I’m awful at adhering to them, particularly the daily photo commitments. I resemble a 100m sprinter participating in a marathon – excelling for a few weeks, only for the initial excitement to diminish.
It seems as though I’m preparing for another setback, but I have additional motivation to enhance my photography commitment in 2025 after identifying a concerning pattern in my photographic journey last year: indifference.

I’m not precisely challenging myself to a daily photo undertaking again – I’ve learned from experience. However, what I aim to achieve is to relish and more so desire to capture photographs once more.
A recent exploration with my retro point-and-shoot reassured me of how much more pleasurable a camera is for capturing images compared to a smartphone, thus a portable camera will be my preferred instrument again.
In 2024, I shifted my GRIIIx from my pocket to my bag on my commuting days. Since it was secured away, the prevailing purpose for its use became ‘just in case’ – a sign of indifference – rather than a declaration of intent to be innovative, like when it once occupied my pocket.
Thus, 2025 will mark the year when my point-and-shoot – whether it be the Ricoh GR IIIx or an old Sony Cybershot RX100 – will reclaim its spot in my pocket. Being readily accessible, I am confident I’ll be more inclined to utilize it, and my creative perspective will reap the rewards.
