Three adolescents have been apprehended following a stolen vehicle colliding with a pub while under police pursuit.

Essex Police indicated that officers signalled for the black Ford Fiesta to halt in Ongar on Saturday, but it proceeded to Fyfield before crashing into the pub on Queen Street.

According to the police, all three passengers exited the vehicle, with two running through the pub’s garden and leaping into a river, trying to swim to safety on the opposite bank.

They were tracked by officers aided by a police dog, and a third individual was also apprehended.

There were no injuries reported among the public.

The police reported that the vehicle had been stolen from Saffron Walden overnight on Thursday.

After it failed to yield, the officer “continued to safely pursue” it, as stated by the force.

An 18-year-old individual from Ongar was arrested on suspicion of motor vehicle theft, failure to stop, and driving while disqualified.

He was also discovered to be wanted for two additional serious crimes.

Two 17-year-old males from Harlow and Chelmsford were detained on suspicion of motor vehicle theft.

All three remain in custody.

Ch Insp Julia Finch remarked: “Regrettably, this is the second such occurrence in Essex this weekend, and it is only due to the professionalism of the involved officers that this was resolved without any public injuries.”
