LA JOLLA, Calif. – UC San Diego’s Chloe Braun and Charlie Franz achieved the Big West Swim Athletes of the Week accolades, as revealed by the conference on Tuesday, Jan. 7. 
 
Competing against No. 24 UCLA and No. 12 Wisconsin, Chloe Braun secured three top five placements. The junior attained second place in the 50 yard breaststroke with a time of 29.25, just 0.22 seconds behind the Wisconsin victor. In the 100 breast, Braun finished 0.13 seconds shy of first place with a time of 1:02.91, earning second. Swimming the second leg of the 200 medley relay, Braun contributed to the Triton women’s fourth place finish with a time of 28.39 in the 100 breast event.
 
Freshman Charlie Franz faced No. 18 Wisconsin on Saturday, Jan. 4, achieving two top five finishes. The distance freestyler recorded a time of 9:33.78 in the 1000 free, placing third in the demanding race. Finishing fifth in the 500 free, the newcomer clocked in at 4:39.56, 0.8 seconds behind his senior teammate who secured fourth.

In the MSPF Conference, the Tritons amassed 26 weekly award recipients, now totaling five in the Big West. This marks Franz’s inaugural collegiate conference honors and Braun’s first recognition in the Big West weekly awards.

 

UP NEXT

The Tritons journey north to USC to compete against the top 25 ranked Trojans in a dual meet on Saturday, Jan. 11. The event is scheduled to commence at 12 p.m. in Los Angeles.
