UMD Bulldogs “ALLETE” Moments: Classroom
Throughout this year, UMD Athletics has collaborated with Minnesota Power, ALLETE to showcase the Bulldogs’ achievements in the 3 C’s: Classroom, Competition, Community.
On Tuesday, eight student athletes from the University of Minnesota Duluth football program were honored by the College Sports Communicators, being named to the 2024 Academic All-District Football Team.
Junior DaShaun Ames, graduates Luke Danielski, Justin Hull, redshirt sophomore Derrick Johnson, graduates Sam Pitz, redshirt junior Cassius Rohadfox, graduate Zach Wallace, and redshirt junior Kyle Walljasper all received this distinction, with three of the players — Ames, Pitz, and Walljasper — marked as eligible to progress to the national ballot that will be voted on by CSC members. The recipients of first, second, and third-team Academic All-America honors will be revealed on January 28, 2025.
Ames, Hull, Pitz, and Walljasper are all returning honorees after achieving this recognition in 2023, while Hull and Pitz also qualified as 2023 honorees.
All eight athletes were also recently acknowledged on the NSIC Fall All-Academic Team and have received NSIC Academic Team of Excellence status, which is awarded exclusively to student-athletes maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.60 or higher.
The 2024 Academic All-District® Football teams, chosen by College Sports Communicators (CSC), honor the country’s leading student-athletes for their accomplishments both athletically and academically. The CSC Academic All-America® program recognizes football recipients across four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA. Athletes must possess a GPA of 3.50 or higher and be a starter or a significantly utilized reserve.
