An upcoming winter weather system is expected to affect Nashville and Davidson County starting Friday morning, January 10th. Present forecasts indicate a possibility of 4-6 inches of snow accumulation throughout the day and into the evening, and the county is currently under a Winter Storm Watch for Friday.

Although atmospheric conditions remain unpredictable, the Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure (NDOT) is ready to tackle winter weather effects on primary, secondary, and post-secondary routes across the county.

In preparation for the anticipated conditions, NDOT is actively pre-treating primary and secondary routes with a brining solution. Post-secondary routes have already been addressed. After the pre-treatment of roads is finalized on Thursday, crews will remain on alert to salt and plow roads as the weather system arrives on Friday. Crews will operate on 12-hour shifts during the event until the routes are clear.

Mayor Freddie O’Connell urges citizens to stay informed about the weather forecast throughout the weekend. “We’ve got more snowplows prepared for more routes than ever before,” remarked Mayor O’Connell. “I hope all Nashvillians will remain aware of the weather conditions and show patience. Should we experience a winter storm event, we will be prepared.”

Diana Alarcon, the Director of NDOT, affirms that the department is fully equipped to handle any winter weather that may reach Nashville.

“We have 40 snowplow vehicles ready with crews to ensure that first responders can reach individuals and public transit can operate safely on any detours,” stated Director Alarcon. “We encourage everyone to provide our crews ample space to operate, avoid roads if possible, and if travel is necessary during the snowfall, drive slowly and with caution.”

Further Details

NDOT has recently revised its snow removal primary and secondary routes to enhance efficiency and cover greater areas of the county. This winter, the department will utilize a post-secondary list instead of responding to individual requests. Reports can still be submitted to hubNashville and will be utilized for data collection and assessment to guide responses during future winter weather occurrences.
