PhotoBrussels marks its 9th iteration across 46 distinct venues! Established in 2016 by Delphine Dumont under the guidance of Hangar, the PhotoBrussels Festival seeks to unite all aficionados, contributors, and experts of modern photography for an entire month.

Since 2022, the formation of the non-profit entity Photo Art and Culture and the establishment of an advisory committee have bolstered the festival’s prestige and significance. The PhotoBrussels Festival has become the essential gathering for photography enthusiasts in Brussels. The 9th iteration is scheduled to occur from January 23 to February 23, 2025.

A Message From Delphine Dumont, the festival’s creator

“PhotoBrussels Festival embodies the multifaceted character of Brussels: a cosmopolitan, lively, creative, European hub that is profoundly human. This festival transcends a mere cultural event; it is a vibrant tribute to photography during a time when the city transforms into a canvas for artistic exploration. Last year, over 100,000 visitors roamed Brussels streets, uncovering exhibition spaces that were as diverse as they were inspiring. It’s a celebration, an invitation to discover, investigate, and above all, be astonished by the wealth of contemporary creation.

UNITE
Over its nine-year span, the PhotoBrussels Festival has positioned itself as a unifying occasion. Professionals in photography have congregated (refer to the committee on page 4), forming connections while appreciating both their commonalities and differences, creating relationships that last beyond the festival. Behind the 46 spots featured on the route, numerous photographers display their artwork across venues such as galleries, art centers, institutions, and private spaces. By uniting all these exhibitions under one umbrella, PBF emphasizes the dynamism of the Brussels and Belgian art community. Artistic creation is celebrated here in its full diversity!

EXPLORE
The festival presents a distinctive chance to take in the landscape of contemporary photography. This medium, deeply intertwined with its era, engages with current issues navigated by artists and reveals many dimensions. Since its inception 200 years ago, photography has continuously advanced alongside technological progress, and today, artificial intelligence further expands its horizons. Through 46 artistic interpretations, the PhotoBrussels Festival delves into a broad spectrum of this ever-evolving discipline.

DIVE INTO
The festival is also a “journey” through the urban landscape, a playful exploration that mirrors the individuality of Brussels: a sprawling city characterized by eclectic architecture and contrasting neighborhoods. Whether by tram, metro, foot, or bicycle, attendees can experience PBF along routes chosen freely according to their preferences and locations. It’s not only a chance to appreciate photography but also an opportunity to rediscover Brussels!

ENGAGE
The PhotoBrussels Festival provides a lineup of events that fosters interactions and meetings. Every venue, beyond its openings, offers unique moments throughout this month dedicated to photography: talks, workshops, book launches, dialogues with artists… The audience has the chance to grasp better the stakes of the medium and engage directly with its key figures.”
