MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Minnesota’s swimming and diving teams will return to competition on Friday, facing off against Arizona State after a hiatus since the Minnesota Invitational which took place at the start of December.  
 
Currently, the Gopher women’s team is ranked No. 23 by CSCAA, while the men’s team holds the No. 24 position. The Arizona State men’s squad is ranked No. 3 by CSCAA, with their women’s team at No. 14.
 
This competition will occur at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center in Tempe, Ariz., commencing at 3:00 p.m. CST/2:00 p.m. EST. Fans can follow the event on Meet Mobile (subscription required). 
 
Both of Minnesota’s swim and dive teams experienced significant achievements during the initial segment of the season. The men’s team has a record of 4-1, while the women’s team has a 6-1 standing. The sole defeat for both teams occurred against conference rival Wisconsin on Nov. 1. 
 
The Gophers concluded the 2024 segment of their schedule at home during the four-day Minnesota Invitational, where many recorded ‘B’ cuts along with personal bests.
 
After the invite, three Gophers received Big Ten Weekly Awards. Freshman Livi Wanner attained her second freshman of the week accolade, Jacob Johnson secured his fourth freshman of the week commendation, and diver Drew Bennett claimed his first diver of the week recognition.
 
Bennett also achieved a bronze medal in the platform event at the 2024 USA Diving Winter National Championships. 
 
So far this season, the Arizona State men’s team has remained unbeaten, boasting significant wins against California, Stanford, and NC State. The ASU women’s team records an overall standing of 6-3, with their most recent victory achieved against Grand Canyon University.
