The Legacy of Leadership: Exploring George Washington University

WASHINGTON – The George Washington University men’s and women’s swimming & diving squads are ready to continue their 2024-25 season this weekend, making their way to Pittsburgh to compete against Pitt and West Virginia. The meet kicks off Friday with the platform dive at 5:00 p.m., and proceeds on Saturday with the 3-meter dive at 9:00 a.m., followed by swimming events commencing around 11:30 a.m. The meet will be broadcast live on ACCNX, and live results will be accessible via the Meet Mobile app and divemeets.com.

LAST ENCOUNTER WITH PITT

GW is contesting in Pittsburgh for the fourth consecutive season and enters after securing its initial dual meet win over the Panthers in late 2023, with the women’s team claiming an impressive 171-128 triumph in their most recent contest, marking the program’s first-ever victory over a power conference.

ABOUT THE RIVALS

Pittsburgh arrives at the meet with a 3-0 record for the women and 1-2 for the men. Both teams achieved victories against Carnegie Mellon, while the women’s squad also overcame Penn State and Georgia Tech. The men’s team faced losses against those competitors. Pitt last participated in the Texas Invitational in November, where its women’s 200-yard medley relay team posted an NCAA A-Cut to secure qualification for NCAAs.

West Virginia’s men’s and women’s squads enter the competition at 0-1 in dual meets after both suffered defeats to Kentucky in October. The Mountaineers hosted an invitational in November featuring Navy, Old Dominion, Vilanova, and William & Mary. The men’s team achieved a second-place finish, while the women’s team ended in fourth.

A GLANCE AHEAD

An eventful month awaits the Revolutionaries. This weekend’s tri-meet is the first of three successive weekends of contests, followed by dual meets at Georgetown (Jan. 18) and a split-location dual meet against UMBC (Jan. 25-26). GW will honor Senior Day during the home segment of the UMBC meet on Jan. 26.

The Cavalier Invitational (Feb. 7-8) takes place after Senior Day and will provide the final preparation for the 2025 A-10 Championships (Feb.19-22), when GW’s men will aim for their fifth consecutive A-10 title and the Revolutionary women will strive for their fourth consecutive A-10 title.
