NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A significant winter storm is set to traverse through the Midstate today, leading to considerable travel interruptions throughout Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky.
FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY – TODAY AND TONIGHT
Snow will begin accumulating in the Midstate during the morning hours, with road conditions expected to rapidly decline.
The snowfall intensity will increase late in the morning and continue into the afternoon as temperatures hover around the freezing point.
Some sleet and/or rain mixing is anticipated, particularly over southern Middle Tennessee by midday today, and this mixing might even approach the I-40 corridor briefly. Nevertheless, snow remains the most probable type of precipitation throughout the storm duration in Nashville.
Snow will gradually taper off from west to east this evening and will be entirely cleared from our region by midnight tonight.
Snow accumulation is expected to be within the 4″ to 6″ range for the majority of the Midstate, though some areas may receive locally higher totals due to heavier snow bands. Slightly lower accumulations are forecasted further north. Totals will be influenced farther south by any mixing that occurs.

There may still be some flurries or light freezing drizzle possible overnight, but this would generally be isolated across the Midstate as temperatures drop into the 20s by tomorrow morning.
THIS WEEKEND
We still foresee challenges on the roads on Saturday, particularly during the morning. There might be a few flurries that persist throughout the day on Saturday, but nothing substantial to cause additional accumulation. Saturday will see high temperatures above freezing in the mid-30s. Saturday night will be cold with lows near 20 by Sunday morning.
Sunday will present a better opportunity for snow melting with increased sunshine and temperatures in the upper 30s by afternoon.
NEXT WEEK
Bright sunshine will accompany us on Monday and Tuesday next week, with temperatures in the mid-30s during both afternoons. The nights will remain cold with lows in the 20s.
Temperatures will gradually rise on Wednesday and Thursday, reaching the upper 30s and lower 40s.
