The Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas has broadened its economic presence with the launch of the Ischoopa Travel Center on its reservation in Livingston, Texas, merging retail services with Class II gaming.

The new establishment showcases 81 Class II gaming devices in its eastern section, whereas the western area accommodates a convenience store that provides snacks, tobacco merchandise, and food options. The development also features a 12-bay fuel station supplying diesel fuel, in collaboration with Sunoco LP.

“The enhancement of our travel center not only brings economic advantages for our tribe but also creates more employment opportunities and services for our community,” stated Tribal Chairman Rick Sylestine. “Moreover, local residents are thrilled that we have transitioned to a 24-hour operation, which is greatly required in our region.”

The travel center signifies a substantial advancement in the tribe’s gaming activities, which initiated in 2016 with the launch of Naskila Casino. According to tribal officials, the casino has expanded from its original 365 Class II gaming devices to over 900 devices currently.

Doug Searle, General Manager, emphasized the facility’s dual role. “Our Naskila team has collaborated very diligently to make this a historic occasion for Naskila and particularly for the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe,” Searle said. “We’ve revamped the convenience store while transforming the previous tobacco shop into a Class II gaming center for our visitors to enjoy.”

The ribbon-cutting event incorporated cultural elements, featuring the tribe’s two princesses performing the Lord’s prayer before 1st Chief Donnis Battise and 2nd Chief Herbert Johnson, Jr. officially inaugurated the facility.

The Ischoopa Travel Center enhances the tribe’s existing business framework, which encompasses Naskila Casino’s gaming activities, two cafes, and a gift shop. This expansion represents another milestone in the tribe’s economic growth initiatives and its approach to diversify income sources while delivering services to both tribal members and the wider community.
