PROVO, Utah — The BYU women’s swimming team was narrowly defeated by UCSB with a score of 146-116 at the Richards Building Pool on Friday night.

“After a challenging winter training session, it was great to compete again today,” remarked BYU head swim and dive coach Tamber McAllister. “Our athletes performed exceptionally well during our races today.”

In spite of the loss, the Cougars displayed their skills with five distinct women securing event victories.

Mackenzie Miller Lung maintained her strength in the breaststroke, achieving a 1:03.38 win in the 100 breast – marking her eighth race victory of the season. Miller Lung concluded her day with a second-place result in the 200 breast, finishing in 2:20.66.

Jasmine Anderson was the sole swimmer to outpace Miller Lung in the 200 breast, finishing first with a time of 2:19.90. The freshman hailing from Wasilla, Alaska switched positions with Miller Lung in the 100 breast, placing second with a time of 1:03.40.

Freshmen Sarah Eliason and Lucy Warnick also contributed wins for the Cougars, each achieving their fourth race victories of the season. Eliason recorded a time of 55.63 to claim the 100 fly and later secured third place in the 200 individual medley at 2:08.86. Warnick triumphed in the 200 IM with a time of 2:06.74 and also claimed sixth-place finishes in both the 100 and 200 breast events.

Distance swimmer Victoria Schreiber provided BYU with its fifth victory of the day, finishing the 1000 free in 10:28.13, which was over 12 seconds ahead of the Gaucho runner-up.

The Cougars’ “A” relay teams secured second place in both the 200 medley and 400 free relays. Katya Hulse, Miller Lung, Eliason, and Halli Williams kicked off the meet with a time of 1:42.78, while Haylee Tiffany, Kara Martinson, Eliason, and Williams recorded a time of 3:29.53 to conclude the day in the 400 free.

This season, BYU swimming will have one more competition at the Richards Building Pool, facing Denver in a dual meet on Jan. 18 at 11 a.m. MST.
