SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College men’s swimming and diving squad hosted a tri-meet on Saturday afternoon against Springfield College and Hartwick College at Alumni Gym Pool. Union lost 205-85 to Springfield and 170-108 to Hartwick.
The Garnet Chargers made a solid start by placing second overall in the 200 medley relay. Union’s team of first-year Nick Megas, senior James Javier Jr., senior Walter Kraus, and junior Drew Hill finished with a time of 1:41.10.
Megas secured the first position in the 50 free with a time of 22.22. The first-year swimmer also achieved a third-place finish in the fiercely contested 100 free, clocking in at 49.59. He was narrowly out-touched at the finish in the 200 free, coming in fourth with a time of 1:49.59.
In the 200 fly, Union secured second and third overall. Hill finished second with a time of 2:02.89, while first-year Brayden Green achieved a personal best with a time of 2:08.93. Hill also placed second in the 100 fly with a finishing time of 50.73. Green had impressive performances in the 200 IM, finishing third, and in the 100 fly, where he set a season-best time of 55.30 for a fourth-place finish.
Senior Tony Piacentini earned third place in the 1000 free with a time of 10:39.76 and also claimed third in the 500 free, finishing with a time of 5:09.72.
Junior Josh Hiller secured third in the 200 back, clocking in at 2:09.96 for a new season-best.
Union will continue its homestand next week with the final home meet and senior day. The Garnet Chargers will host #19 Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Saturday, with the event starting at 1:00 p.m. at Alumni Gym Pool.
