Sledgehammer’s Visionary Multiplayer Maestro Bids Farewell After 15 Years

Sledgehammer Games, a prominent studio central to the Call of Duty franchise, has faced a tumultuous journey with the series over the past decade. The studio is recognized for titles such as Advanced Warfare, WWII, and Vanguard, which showcases a true mixed collection of Call of Duty games.

In a recent update on social media, Sledgehammer’s Greg Reisdorf, who spent 15 years with the company and attained the position of Multiplayer Creative Director, disclosed that he has resigned from the organization.

What Lies Ahead

In his Twitter (X) post, Greg Reisdorf stated:

Friday marked my final day at Sledgehammer Games after 15 years. I’m remarkably thankful for the experiences and fantastic developers I collaborated with.

He then reflected on the legacy of Sledgehammer Games, sharing various anecdotes and insights from his tenure at the firm. He mentioned creating the memorable scene where Soap succumbs to his injuries in Modern Warfare 3 (2011). He also indicated that Advanced Warfare ‘was a challenge – but we made it happen’.

In hindsight, Reisdorf indicated that the ‘Pick 13’ loadout system ‘should not have been implemented’. This remains one of the most contentious subjects within the Call of Duty community every year.

Reisdorf also disclosed his significant role in revisiting the MW2 maps in Modern Warfare III (2023). It’s broadly viewed as the least favorable Call of Duty title released in recent years, yet the fan service was nothing short of delightful, with Reisdorf responsible for numerous easter eggs and finer details or ‘nods’ for devoted COD fans.
