ACC Crowns This Week’s Stellar Swimmers and Divers

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – During week 14 of the weekly accolades for the 2024 Atlantic Coast Conference Swimming & Diving season, Virginia Tech’s Carles Coll Marti was honored as Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Swimmer of the Week. Meanwhile, SMU’s Luke Sitz and Virginia Tech’s Nathan Cox were recognized as co-winners for Men’s Diver of the Week. Virginia’s Katie Grimes earned the title of Women’s Swimmer of the Week, and Aranza Vázquez Montaño was awarded Women’s Diver of the Week.

ACC MEN’S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK

Carles Coll Marti, Virginia Tech, Fifth Year, Catalonia, Spain

Coll Marti received the ACC Men’s Swimmer of the Week accolade for the second consecutive week after aiding the No. 19 Hokies in their triumph over No. 17 Virginia. The fifth-year senior emerged victorious in each individual event he participated in, which included the 100 breast (50.78), 200 breast (1:51.03), and 200 IM (1:42.61). Coll Marti shattered pool records in all three events, contributed to the victorious 200 medley team that set a new pool record with a time of 1:22.93, established a school record in the 100 breast, and equaled the ACC record for the 100 breast.

 

ACC MEN’S CO-DIVER OF THE WEEK

Nathan Cox, Virginia Tech, Fr., Arcadia, Indiana

The Mustang rookie excelled in diving last week, achieving wins against No. 17 Virginia. The Arcadia, Indiana, native claimed victory in the 1-meter with a score of 359.25 and excelled in the 3-meter with a score of 371.10.

 

ACC MEN’S CO-DIVER OF THE WEEK

Luke Sitz, SMU, Fr., Prosper, Texas

Sitz was selected as the ACC Men’s Diver of the Week for the second week in a row, making it five times this season. Competing against No. 1 Texas, the rookie from Prosper, Texas, secured victory in the 3-meter with a score of 389.55 while finishing second in the 1-meter with a score of 341.85.

 

ACC WOMEN’S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK

Katie Grimes, Virginia, Fr., Las Vegas, Nevada

During her collegiate debut for Virginia last weekend, Grimes dominated all three individual events she entered, contributing to Virginia’s success against Virginia Tech. The freshman established a pool record in the 200 fly with a time of 1:53.23 and clinched first place in both the 200 back (1:51.56) and the 200 IM (1:55.62).

 

ACC WOMEN’S DIVER OF THE WEEK

Aranza Vázquez Montaño, North Carolina, Gr., La Paz, New Mexico

Vázquez Montaño was recognized as the ACC Women’s Diver of the Week for the second straight week and for the third time this season. The La Paz, Mexico, native registered two first-place victories in the Tar Heels’ win over No. 20 Duke. In the 1-meter, Vázquez Montaño achieved a score of 324.15, and subsequently scored 362.33 in the 3-meter.
