SETTING THE STAGE
- The Terps commence week two holding the No. 23 position in the Road to Nationals standings. Maryland also ranks No. 15 on floor, No. 22 for bars, and No. 23 for beam, aiming to enhance their season-opening score of 195.400.
- Junior Maddie Komoroski delivered an outstanding performance on beam in week one, securing her place at No. 2 among beam gymnasts in the Big Ten, and No. 20 in the NCAA.
- Graduate Alexa Rothenbuescher, a steadfast leader on floor, holds the No. 3 slot among floor gymnasts in the Big Ten and No. 14 among NCAA floor competitors.
- The Terrapins met UCLA previously at the Raleigh Regional in 2022, where the Bruins secured first place with a score of 197.600, while the Terrapins finished third with a score of 196.025.
- The Terps were positioned No. 24 in the WCGA Preseason Coaches Poll and No. 22 in the College Gym News Preseason Poll. The Terps are looking to achieve a seventh consecutive appearance in the NCAA Regionals during the 2025 season (this includes seven participations counting the 2020 season, when Regionals did not occur due to the COVID-19 crisis).
- The Terps have welcomed back numerous key contributors, including graduate student Alexa Rothenbuescher, recently recognized as a Big Ten Gymnast to Watch. Rothenbuescher has just come off a dominating senior season, posting a career high of 9.950 on floor and 9.925 on bars. Alongside Rothenbuescher, sophomore Natalie Martin, also named a Big Ten Gymnast to watch for the second consecutive year, returns as the beam scoring leader. Martin has established an impressive record, having been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week last January. Five of the team’s top scorers make their return for the bars, beam, and floor exercise, with Taylor Rech, Rhea Leblanc, Sierra Kondo, Maddie Komoroski and Victoria Gatzendorfer all rejoining as event starters from the previous season.
- Last season, the GymTerps achieved a 13-7 overall record while concluding the season ranked No. 26 in Road To Nationals NQS scoring. Maryland won Session I of the Big Ten Championships for the first time in the program’s history, obtaining their highest team score at the Big Ten Championships of 196.775. The Terps finished with the best team NQS in program history after the championships with a 196.790.
