Elon Musk Fires Back at Gamers Critiquing His Skills in Path of Exile 2!

Billionaire and gaming aficionado Elon Musk was recently ejected from the free-to-play action title Path of Exile 2, and he is currently engaged in a dispute with Asmongold, a well-known Twitch broadcaster, regarding whether he has genuinely played the game himself.

“There’s no chance he played that account,” Asmongold, known as ZackRawrr as well, stated in a video shared by another gamer, Screamheart. “I apologize. I believe he purchased the account or someone acquired it for him.”

Newsweek contacted Musk’s public relations team at X, previously known as Twitter, as well as Path of Exile’s support unit for additional insights via email.

Musk, Chief Executive Officer of Twitter, Inc. (X Corp.), Tesla, Inc., and SpaceX, has established an increasingly prominent role in U.S. and worldwide politics. He allegedly participated in a phone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Trump. More recently, he has gained notoriety concerning his capabilities in Path of Exile 2 as gamers question how he manages to find time for the game alongside his executive roles. His responses to claims that he doesn’t engage in the game have resulted in community notes following violations of his own social media platform’s guidelines.

Another Twitch player, Screamheart, clarified in a video that if Musk was indeed the individual playing on his purported account, he would need to have “completed thousands of maps by now.”

As per gaming websites, Musk had accomplished “pinnacle content” multiple times, beginning his journey with the game only a month ago on December 18, 2024. He even secured the 15th position on the game’s leaderboard. He was removed from the game for “executing too many actions too rapidly.”

Musk had also once mentioned playing Path of Exile 2 while on a flight using Starlink.

Reddit user Fraggu, however, pointed out that Musk’s supposed account is linked to Hong Kong, whereas Musk played in the United States. A subsequent Reddit discussion revealed that a third party was utilizing Musk’s account to advance it within the game.

Recently, on X, Musk broadcasted his gameplay session on January 7. Some users suggested it displayed his “inexperience,” highlighting that Musk’s game had a “Elon’s map” tab and he was clearing areas “ineffectively.”

On January 11, gamer Quin69 released a video titled “Elon Musk is Lying About Being Good at Video Games,” wherein Musk is accused of being dishonest about Path of Exile 2 and his own skills. Asmongold additionally stated there’s “no way” Musk was the one playing.

“Did Elon Musk play this account to level 97? The response is quite simple: No. Absolutely, without a doubt,” Asmongold declared. “If Elon Musk can demonstrate that he played this account to 97, I will stream on X, starting the day he proves it, for an entire year continuously, every single stream.”

During a livestream on Wednesday, Asmongold reviewed posts on his subreddit that mentioned Musk unfollowed the Twitch gamer on X. Some speculated Musk must be “unhappy” with Asmongold’s videos.

After sharing his own views, Asmongold played a video showing Musk referencing the debate, stating that “the Chinese driver of my Path of Exile account” is named “Elon Ma, and he is incredible! I depend on him for everything.”

“Well, there it is,” Asmongold remarked. “The enigma has been unraveled. There we go. Well, it has been confirmed.”

However, Musk was not finished and posted on X on Thursday that “Asmon acts like a maverick ‘independent’ but in truth, has to request his superior for permission before he can undertake anything,” sharing screenshots of a dialogue between the two where Asmongold mentions he needs his editors’ consent.

A content warning was appended to Musk’s screenshots, noting that it contravenes X regulations to release “another person’s private messages without their explicit authorization and consent.”

It remains uncertain if Musk will receive a warm reception back to Path of Exile 2. Nevertheless, the billionaire is set to take charge of the DOGE once President-elect Donald Trump assumes office on Monday, January 20.
