“Spellbinding Cinematic Magic: 2024’s ‘Wicked’ Delights Audiences!”

The previous year has passed. There were both positive and negative occurrences throughout, particularly in the realm of films. 

As we prepare to greet 2025, let’s take a moment to reminisce fondly over the finest cinematic productions of 2024. 

As you are aware, you have the right to your own perspective … as do I. This is just an amusing list to honor all the wonderful cinematic experiences we encountered this year! 

Without any further ado, here are my top five films of 2024:

5. “Wicked: Part 1” 

“Wicked” was the most unexpected delight of the year for me. I entered the film anticipating a mediocre adaptation of a cherished musical, and instead, I was treated to an exhilarating journey that perfectly captures the experience of being in the theater and witnessing magic unfold before your eyes.

I was captivated by all the performances, particularly the final scene, which astounded me. This film was an adventure in every conceivable way, and I was ecstatic to have experienced it on the grand screen.

4. Deadpool and Wolverine 

As an avid comic book enthusiast, this was everything I desired from a Marvel film this year: Two characters defying the odds as they take on the multiverse with reckless abandon. 

Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman have exceptional on-screen chemistry. I relished all the various cameos, and the soundtrack was phenomenal. I particularly enjoyed Cassandra Nova as the antagonist. It was splendid to witness Shawn Levy direct with such zeal for not only the characters but also the performers involved. 

3. Dune: Part 2 

The “Dune” saga has captivated me ever since “Dune: Part 1” was released in 2021. It was wonderful to finally reengage with these characters after what felt like an eternity of eager anticipation for their story to progress. Timothée Chalamet remains exceptional as Paul Atreides, as does Zendaya as Chani. 

Denis Villeneuve is a virtuoso behind the lens. Every frame of this film could serve as a poster in its own right. This movie is akin to wandering through a science-fiction art exhibition. Cinematographer Greg Fraser also excels with the color grading, particularly on the Harkonnen home planet. 

This film has secured its spot as one of the most remarkable Sci-Fi films ever created and frequently occupies my thoughts. 

2. The Wild Robot 

This film is one of the most touching tales of the year, any parent will resonate with this poignant story regarding the phases of parenthood. Roz served as a fantastic anchor for the viewers, as we experience the world through her perspective and analysis of the challenges she encounters. This is a deeply emotional narrative with a heart-wrenching finale that will leave you yearning for more. 

One element I haven’t previously discussed in my writing for cmlife is that the animal characteristics are all based on their specific species. I found that to be clever and made all the characters feel authentic and endearing. This would have been my top choice but for one other film. 

1. We Live In Time  

This film resonated deeply with me on a personal level. The remarkable chemistry between Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh was akin to witnessing a thunderstorm of love. Their intricate, profound emotions expressed through brilliant performances were like watching fireworks burst into vibrant colors. 

The direction was exceptional at creating an atmosphere that felt like a faded, long-lost memory that reemerges occasionally to remind you that you are alive and filled with passion. 

Films like this are why I long to visit theaters and experience life through a different perspective (pun intended). It stands as the finest film 2024 has had to offer.
