NEWVILLE, Pa. — The Kutztown University men’s swimming squad participated in both the John A. Pidgeon Memorial Invitational and PSAC Last Chance Meet at Big Spring High School on Saturday, aiming to achieve fast times in anticipation of next month’s PSAC Championships.
The events were held and scored in a championship format. Kutztown finished second in both the morning and afternoon meets to IUP, which was the only other attending men’s team.
In his season debut in the 200-yard breaststroke, RJ Otten (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) clocked a PSAC qualifying time of 2:16.22 to secure second place in the event during the afternoon’s PSAC Last Chance Meet.
The Golden Bears swam the 400 freestyle relay uncontested to earn maximum points in 3:26.75, while Otten (200 IM, 100 breast), Matheson Bair (Orwigsburg, Pa./Blue Mountain) (50 free), Theo Miksa (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) (100 back), and Paul Spear (Hatboro, Pa./Upper Moreland) (500 free) achieved second-place finishes during the Pidgeon Memorial Invitational.
In the PSAC Last Chance Meet, the Maroon and Gold witnessed Nigel Pizzo (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) (100 free) and the 200 medley relay team join Otten as runner-up finishers.
Kutztown will conclude its regular season on Saturday, Feb. 1, at the United States Merchant Marine Academy Memorial Invite. The PSAC Championships are scheduled for Feb. 17-20 in York, Pa.
