“The storm will persist in its movement up the East Coast into early Monday, with the majority of the snowfall expected to ease by mid-morning,” stated weather.com digital meteorologist Sara Tonks. “Northwesterly winds may lead to lake-effect snow bands affecting areas downwind of the Great Lakes, and strong winds could create delays for air travel in hubs such as New York and Boston.”

Airport delays increased, with hundreds of flights canceled or delayed in Washington, Boston and New York by Sunday evening, according to the online tracker FlightAware.com. Amtrak also reported several alterations to their schedules.
