The Iowa high school girls state swimming and diving championship is relocating eastward.

For over two decades, this event has taken place at the Marshalltown YMCA, but that will change commencing in the autumn of 2025. The new venue will be the Campus and Recreation and Wellness Center at the University of Iowa.

The board of directors of the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU) sanctioned the relocation, as stated in a release issued by the union on Monday.

This relocation aligns the girls’ event with the IHSAA boys state swimming meet. The natatorium has also hosted national competitions, such as the 2015 NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships and the USA Diving Regionals.

“We are thrilled to have the University of Iowa’s Campus Recreation and Wellness Center as the host for the Girls State Swimming and Diving Championships,” stated IGHSAU executive director Erin Gerlich in Monday’s announcement.

“Iowa City, Coralville, and the Iowa City Sports Commission offer excellent assistance for all state events they host for us. They will make the town vibrant for our swimmers and divers next November.”

The 2025 girls state swimming and diving championship is scheduled for Nov. 14-15.

This announcement included one of two changes for high school sports disclosed on Monday.

The governing bodies of the IGHSAU and Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) ratified joint updates for soccer which will take effect in the forthcoming 2025 regular season and postseason. These updates incorporate: eliminating overtime periods for any regular-season match at all levels, implementing a running clock starting with a 10-goal difference, and introducing new weather delay and yellow card guidelines that align with the NFHS Soccer Rulebook.
