WINTHROP, Mass. – In a season characterized by earning multiple Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly honors, the Norwich University men’s swimming and diving team continues to forge its legacy, as Arthur Abrams (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) achieved his inaugural GNAC Swimmer of the Week accolade, while Kristian Adlianitski (Cheshire, Conn.) secured a place on the GNAC Honor Roll.
The Cadet men established nine unique pool records while winning all 14 events in a dominant 134-64 triumph against Plymouth State University at the PSU Natatorium on Saturday afternoon.
Abrams enjoyed an outstanding and historic weekend for the Cadets during their victory over Plymouth State on Saturday. He clinched two solo wins, outpacing his closest rival by over 10 seconds with a time of 2:21.08 in the 200-yard breaststroke, marking a new pool record at the Panthers’ PSU Natatorium.
He subsequently achieved one of the most remarkable victories of the day in the 100-yard IM, finishing with a time of 58.03 to outshine three other competitors. Abrams also participated in the 200-yard medley relay team to commence the meet, along with competing in the 50-yard butterfly, where he recorded the third-highest score among 11 competitors.
Adlianitski, on the other hand, claimed consecutive first-place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle, finishing in 22.55 and 49.87 seconds respectively, setting pool records for both events at the PSU Natatorium. He also swam as part of two first-place relay teams, anchoring the 200-yard medley relay and the 200-yard freestyle relay with times of 1:41.16 and 1:32.26 respectively.
Abrams is now the fourth male swimmer from Norwich to earn GNAC Swimmer of the Week honors this season, joining Adlianitski, Will Thompson (Downingtown, Pa.), and Martin Adlianitski (Cheshire, Conn.). This marks the second consecutive week that the Cadets have garnered Swimmer of the Week accolades, following Martin Adlianitski‘s recognition last week.
Abrams, Adlianitski, and the Cadets concluded head-to-head competition with a 4-2 record after Saturday’s contest at Plymouth State. A select group of swimmers will compete in the two-day Middlebury Invitational in Middlebury, Vt., on Friday, Jan. 31, and Saturday, Feb. 1. Norwich, aiming to defend consecutive conference titles, will then focus on the three-day Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championships, hosted by Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) from Feb. 7 to Feb. 9.
