After a delightful, brief time reconnecting with them, I headed to the monthly Minerals Sports Club Member Mixer Social. It was a pleasure to catch up with my buddies Jasen, Brendan, and Brad amongst others. I absolutely adore their new theme for Country Line Dancing! Despite the chilly January evening, we had a fantastic turnout. Every table had at least a few cheerful faces gathered around them. Apparently, they are synchronizing this with their new Country Line Dancing classes at Minerals Sports Club. I might have to give that a shot someday, even though I possess absolutely no rhythm whatsoever. I recollect almost 15 years back when we hosted a Ball-style dance party on a cruise in Boston at my radio station. My morning co-host caught me in two embarrassing situations. First, I offered her and my morning colleague Jim a round of drinks. Margery requested that I order her a Cosmo. I curiously asked her how she wanted it. Whoops! In my younger days, I clearly lacked knowledge about Cosmos. Later, my morning girl Margery asked me to dance with her. I had warned her all week that I am a dreadful dancer. Within 2 minutes she exclaimed, “oh my god Steve Allan, you truly are a terrible dancer, I’m sorry! You’re excellent at running radio stations as our boss, but absolutely atrocious at dancing!” Well, I never tell untruths! I did issue the warning!
On Friday, my colleagues invited me to join them for a fun team-building happy hour. We gathered for a round of refreshments at Crystal Springs Crystal Tavern. It was wonderful spending time with work wife Shawn, and close friends Steve and Mia. I enjoyed teaching Mia more about the wild radio industry we navigate every day. Given the years of experience that Shawn and I possess, it’s safe to say we have our share of amusing radio anecdotes and memories.
Later that Friday evening, I visited with close pals Jasen and Brendan before they departed on vacation. It was a pleasant, laid-back night as they prepared for their trip while I relaxed. We enjoyed watching the Severance show together. It leans a little more into sci-fi than I typically prefer, yet the show is compelling. I recently started watching it with Jasen and Brendan. The more I discovered about it, particularly how much of it was filmed in Jersey and that it is directed/produced by Ben Stiller? I now need to continue giving this show a good chance. I thought it was an ingenious PR marketing move for them to stage a pop-up show for everyone to view right in the center of Grand Central! I’ve only watched this show a few times, but over the last week, it has appeared in my social media feeds incessantly! So, Friday night, as we enjoyed a peaceful, quiet evening, suddenly one of their cats caught me off guard. I’ve known their cat Ally since she was a kitten five years back. The new cat Cheeto, they’ve had for about a year now, is quite charming, sweet, but shy around people. All of a sudden, we locked eyes, and Cheeto leaped onto the couch to snuggle with his Uncle Steve. It was fantastic! Perhaps he’s starting to emerge from his shell, similar to what we often witness with my Pets Of The Week?
The remainder of the weekend was spent enjoying NFL Playoffs. With the temperatures dropping, it was simply perfect. Especially once they increased our snow forecast to close to a foot, that made decisions straightforward. I had a blast watching the earlier games out with friends at The Cottage, and later games at home. On Sunday, unfortunately, my timing for the drive home was poor, resulting in a 30-minute journey back through the snowstorm instead of the usual 10-15 minutes. No worries! I was quite content and relaxed once I finally arrived home!
At least I managed to catch up with my bestie Jennifer on Sunday early afternoon, whom I hadn’t seen in far too long. It was lovely spending time together and updating each other on all the chaos within both our lives.
In summary, it was as robust a weekend as possible, considering the snow that fell right in the midst of it all. Now it’s time to start planning for next weekend!
