PORT CLINTON – Every Thursday evening, patrons assemble at Slater’s Food & Spirits for meals, enjoyment, and intriguing trivia during the restaurant’s Buzztime Trivia Night. Thursdays also coincide with Wing Night at Slater’s, crafting an ideal mix for a delightful winter evening.

“People worry there’s not much to engage in during winter, but we make our own fun,” Slater remarked. “Trivia Night is about reconnecting with friends.”

On January 9, Trivia Night was led by Ernie Gresh, who kept the audience amused and thinking by asking questions about variometers, Velcro, and inventions. Ernie, the technology director at Lakota Schools, alternates hosting responsibilities with his sister, Vicky Gresh, a retired math educator from Port Clinton.

“We collaborate on this,” Vicky shared. “Initially, we came here as guests and enjoyed the atmosphere. We began participating in trivia, and now we host it.”

The Trivia Night at Slater’s is a significant attraction that can sometimes fill the entire venue, and on January 16, it became even more exciting when the Gresh siblings introduced new gaming gadgets that allow participants to engage using their smartphones. This fresh system promises to be more user-friendly, entertaining, and provides a variety of games.

“After tonight, I’ll be dismantling the old setup and putting in the new one,” Ernie stated on January 9.

Thanks to the food quality, Slater’s is an excellent venue for dining on any evening. The establishment offers hand-crafted steaks, fresh perch, signature pasta dishes, renowned burgers, and a complete bar. Thursday’s Wing Night showcases freshly prepared jumbo chicken wings.

“We serve homestyle meals that are satisfying and heartwarming for dinner on a chilly evening,” Slater noted.

Jazz Night will make a comeback on February 12. Every Wednesday, the Mike Lorenz Trio will perform, complemented by pasta and wine promotions from the kitchen.

“The trio invites special guests each Wednesday,” Slater mentioned. “They travel from cities like Cleveland and Detroit.”

Slater’s will commemorate St. Patrick’s Day on Friday, March 14.

“We’ll feature all your beloved Irish dishes, such as corned beef and cabbage, along with reubens. We prepare 300 pounds of corned beef for St. Patrick’s Day,” Slater stated. “Everyone anticipates the food.”

Until that time, patrons are pleased to frequent Slater’s on Trivia Night, where Ernie and Vicky keep them amused, and the kitchen at Slater’s ensures their satisfaction and contentment.

“I love everything on the menu. Everything is exceptional – Aimee ensures it’s prepared that way,” Vicky remarked. “You can’t surpass this place.”

Vicky shared that she and Ernie combine their hosting earnings for summer enjoyment.

“We share ownership of a boat, so we pool our earnings from this and contribute towards the boat. But we also dine and drink here, so we ultimately return our money,” Vicky laughed.
