Birmingham nursing house downgraded to insufficient

The care house, run by an organization of the identical title, supplies private and nursing care – with 26 individuals residing there on the time of the inspection in May.

Inspectors mentioned they have been “disappointed” that the standard of care had “deteriorated considerably” for the reason that earlier inspection in 2020.

The breaches associated to a raft of areas together with person-centred care, dignity and respect, consent, threat administration, vitamin and hydration, premises and gear security, staffing, and administration.

Amanda Lyndon, CQC deputy director of operations in Birmingham, mentioned the standard of management on the house had declined.

She mentioned: “Our experience tells us when a service isn’t well-led, they find it difficult to provide good care in the other areas we look at, which is what we found here.

“Staff and leaders did not recognise or report safeguarding considerations to guard individuals from potential abuse or hurt.

“We saw leaders also failed to provide sufficient guidance for staff to safely manage people’s health conditions and risks. They didn’t ensure staff were adequately trained and had the relevant skills and knowledge to provide safe care.

Inspectors found the manager of the service was approachable, listened to concerns and supported staff.

They also said residents and their relatives knew how to give feedback and felt comfortable raising concerns.

However the report noted that leaders “did not present clear data and steering for workers” on supporting people with known health conditions.

It also said staff did not manage residents’ nutrition and hydration needs “successfully”.
