The Vanderbilt University Department of Art will begin the brand new Studio VU Lecture Series this fall welcoming artist John Opera to campus this September. Opera’s analysis explores the bodily and conceptual dimensions of images by specializing in it’s materiality, abstraction, and connection to pure phenomena. Critically analyzing the medium’s standardized workflows, he challenges its inherent programmability, pushing its boundaries by way of non-traditional processes and customised instruments. Opera is program head of the Photography space on the University of Buffalo, the place he’s an Associate Professor of Art.
His latest exhibitions embrace: (Lisbon), The Museum of Contemporary Photography (Chicago), Paris Photo (Paris), June Art Fair (Basel), Rhode Island Center for Photography (Providence), Mrs. Gallery (New York), Carriage Trade (New York), Foreland Campus for Contemporary Art (Catskill).
