INDEPENDENCE, Minn. – The Northern Illinois University males’s golf staff opened its 2025-26 season on the Gopher Invitational, hosted by Minnesota at Windsong Farm Golf Club. The Huskies completed in fifteenth place at 44-over par.
“The start of 2025 mirrored our experience in 2024 at Windsong Farm,” stated head coach John Carlson. “The demanding championship layout tested our young team and we struggled to find consistency off the tee throughout the week.”
Sophomore Beau Petersen (Gretna, Neb./Gretna) was the Huskies’ prime finisher, ending tied for forty fifth with a 54-hole rating of eight-over par 211. Petersen posted a gap spherical 75 Sunday morning, following that up with a fair par spherical of 71 within the afternoon. He performed his remaining 9 holes within the second spherical at two-under par to put up NIU’s lowest spherical of the match. “Looking ahead, we plan to make some adjustments to our lineup for the Badger Invitational in two weeks with the goal of addressing our driving challenges,” Carlson stated.
The Huskies had two golfers compete as people on the Minnesota Golf Classic, hosted by Bethel University at Pioneer Creek Golf Course. Conner McCall (Vandalia, Ill./Vandalia Community) tied for twelfth with a 54-hole rating of one-over par 21. McCall had a career-low spherical of 70 within the second spherical. Devin Swoyer (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) tied for thirty third at seven-over par.
NIU is subsequent in motion Sept. 22-23 at Wisconsin’s Badger Invitational at TPC Wisconsin in Madison.
