“Getting to know the individuals on that group and to have these connections can be tremendous cool to have,” Kovacs said. “Just seeing them across the deck, making friendships. And if I get to go to a world meet, I’ll have an opportunity to know extra individuals by way of that have.”
Getting ready for college swimming
Kovacs and fellow South grad Lukas Paegle, also a freshman, are settling in to their new swimming home.
Kovacs took a 3-4 week break at the beginning of August, having competed in the National Swim Club Association national meet.
“I used to be actually proud of it,” he said. “I believe that is the meet that obtained me on the group.”
It’s back to work now as Kovacs seeks to shore up his breaststroke and freestyle to improve his IM and get adapted to the new training regimen and a more competitive atmosphere in the Hoosier program. IU will get its season started at home on Sept 26 vs. Florida.
“I’m getting again into issues,” Kovacs said. “The conditioning goes effectively and I’m progressively rising my quantity and depth. I believe South set me up effectively, and dealing throughout the group atmosphere has pushed me.
“I love the team. They’re all great guys and girls, all super nice. And all super fast. It’s pushed me to a whole other level.”
