Join us for the opening reception of Unforgettable: The Civil Rights Photography of Cecil Williams.
Cecil Williams is a veteran photojournalist and native of Orangeburg, SC. Williams documented many vital tales and occasions in the course of the civil rights period, together with the prosecution of Briggs v. Elliott (early Nineteen Fifties) and the Orangeburg Massacre (1968). At age 14, Williams grew to become the youngest contributing photographer to JET journal. Williams’ profession spans over 70 years; he has authored a number of books and serves because the director of the South Carolina Civil Rights Museum. Cecil Williams’s pictures is featured in Injustice in Focus by Claudia Smith Brinson.
This exhibition contains a number of Williams’ pictures, accompanied by interpretive textual content for every, highlighting Williams’ work whereas additionally exploring the broader position of pictures within the Civil Rights motion.
