Finney a Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Semifinalist

EUGENE, Ore. — Oregon defensive again Brandon Finney Jr. was introduced on Wednesday as certainly one of 12 semifinalists for the 2025 Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award, which is offered to probably the most excellent freshman participant in school soccer. 

The Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award was created in 2018 and is offered on the Maxwell Football Club Awards together with a number of of the opposite high awards in school {and professional} soccer. It is known as in honor of Shaun Alexander, a former standout on the University of Alabama and with the Seattle Seahawks.

Finney is certainly one of three Big Ten freshmen to be named semifinalists for the dignity. He is the primary Duck ever to be chosen as a semifinalist.

Finney has began all eight video games for the Ducks as a real freshman, becoming a member of huge receiver Dakorien Moore as the primary UO true freshmen to start out a season opener since 2019. He leads all certified FBS cornerbacks with only a 14.3 reception fee allowed this season, as Pro Football Focus credit him with simply three receptions allowed on 21 targets.

A local of Owings Mills, Md., Finney has 15 complete tackles on the season in addition to 4 move breakups and an interception, which he returned 35 yards for a landing in Week 7 towards Indiana. He turned the primary UO true freshman with a pick-six since Rashad Bauman on Oct. 25, 1997. 

Finney and the No. 9 Ducks (7-1, 4-1 Big Ten) open the ultimate month of the common season this Saturday at No. 20 Iowa (12:30 p.m. PT, CBS).
