HENRICO, Va. (WWBT) – Henrico County has filed a lawsuit in opposition to the Virginia Racing Commission its approval of a gaming license for the Roseshire gaming parlor.

The county is suing the fee for approving the parlor’s gaming license, claiming an previous referendum was used for the approval.

“Henrico is appealing the flawed decision to allow the Roseshire wagering facility in our community because the voices of our residents were intentionally and wrongly silenced as part of the review process,” County Manager John A. Vithoulkas stated. “Because this facility operates with terminals akin to slot machines, it is fundamentally and legally different from what was envisioned nearly a quarter century ago when Henrico voters approved a referendum allowing only off-track betting on horse races. Along with our residents and elected officials, we encouraged the operators to follow the appropriate local review process, which would have allowed them to respond in good faith to community concerns. Instead, they chose a cynical path that shows they’re not interested in being a good neighbor or a valued corporate citizen.”

Roseshire opened to clients on the Staples Mill Shopping Center on the finish of September.

The Virginia Racing Commission has not responded to requests for remark.
