‘We need to reestablish our connection to nature. This is where imagery is so powerful’

Photographed within the turquoise waters of Mo’orea, French Polynesia, Rachel Moore’s shot – In Her Shadow – captures the intimate connection between a humpback whale mom and her calf, resting beneath the water’s floor.

“I was able to photograph this tender moment of the baby nestled beneath its mother,” says Moore. “At this age, calves have limited control over their buoyancy and will often use their mothers like a weight belt to help them stay submerged and safe.”

Moore’s picture is a part of Edition Hope, the 2025 return of Prints for Wildlife, one of many world’s largest wildlife pictures print gross sales. It options works from greater than 200 main wildlife and nature photographers, but additionally provides a platform to new, rising creatives in an intention to foster better inclusion.

Each print bought by the fundraiser was priced at $125 (£95), with all web proceeds going on to Conservation International, a non-profit that works globally to guard biodiversity, restore forests and assist communities which can be depending on nature.

Since 2020, Prints for Wildlife has raised over £1.6m for conservation. Pie Aerts, a Dutch documentary photographer and one of many initiative’s founders, described it as greater than only a fundraiser: “It’s a platform for connection, consciousness and hope in a time of crisis,” he mentioned.

“We’ve witnessed how art can spark action,” added Marion Payr, considered one of Aerts’ co-founders. “We know many people feel powerless in the face of these changes. But there is power in photography. There is power in community. And above all there is still hope.”
