Journey Alert: PennDOT warns of Saturday snow and Route 33 sinkhole repairs | Allentown Space

Crews are on the roads getting every part prepared for Saturday’s snowfall. 

After a short break, our area is gearing up for one more spherical of snow, and so in PennDOT.

“We’ve had some warm days and some rain, so any residual salt that was on the roadway previously had been washed away, so that’s why we need to get out there and put some brine on the roadway,” stated PennDOT Press Officer Sean Brown. 

Despite coping with just a few back-to-back storms in December, PennDOT is totally stocked with salt. 

“We have contracts that re-supply us if need be, so we get filled up at the beginning of the season,” stated Brown. “If we run low, we’re able to get more and have our contractor refill our supplies throughout the year.”

If the snow is not sufficient to get you to remain house Saturday morning, there’s additionally a sinkhole on Route 33 southbound close to mile marker 8.7.

“Currently we have crews out there repairing the holes in the roadway, we do have Route 33 down to one lane right now to keep the road open for traffic,” stated Brown. 

Whether it is a sinkhole or snow, PennDOT officers say they’re ready. 

“It’s really in the nature of our business to be able to get out there and move quickly if we need to react to a storm,” Brown stated.
