ALDOT TRAVEL ALERT UPDATE: Marengo, Choctaw, Washington, Wilcox, Clarke & Monroe Counties

Freezing temperatures are anticipated Sunday night into Monday morning, creating hazardous driving situations throughout the ALDOT Southwest Region.

Onset of Freezing Temperatures

7–8 p.m. Sunday: Marengo, Choctaw, Washington

8–9 p.m. Sunday: Wilcox

9–10 p.m. Sunday: Clarke, Monroe

8–10 a.m. Monday: All counties stay in danger

Roadway Impacts

Still-wet pavements could freeze quickly, creating a skinny layer of ice generally referred to as black ice

Bridges and overpasses will freeze first

Threat of very mild snow/flurries or mild sleet Sunday night and in a single day could additional enhance street and bridge hazards

Motorist Safety

Avoid journey if doable throughout freezing situations

Reduce pace and enhance following distance

Use excessive warning on bridges, ramps, and shaded areas
