Hear from head coach Heidi Voigt

While the NMU swimming and diving groups gear up for the convention championships, head coach Heidi Voigt says the interval main as much as the weekend is essential for “more rest” and restoration earlier than step one in a few of the most vital races of the season.

“Getting them to feel sharper, getting more sleep, and trying to cut out mornings so they’re getting more rest… Our group is really excited to get on the road.”

The workforce has had loads of alternative for restoration and down time of late, because the groups had two house meets in January and a full week off earlier than the beginning of the convention championships.

“It was really nice having the weekend off and getting a little more rest. We had team meals which act as a nice wrap-up [to the season], we can talk about conference [championships], and appreciate each other.  Having that break is really important for getting our minds right for the weekend.”

One of the toughest components of teaching is making the troublesome choices, with a few of these choices being who will swim the place on the weekend.

“Its incredibly hard, and it’s been so stressful, and at some point I just need to know that someone I chose to bring is going to go super fast… A few years ago we took a guy to NCAA’s because of how fast he swam at conferences, but you do have to make those decisions.”

“We have a good concept of who could be on the relays, I have about six to seven that could be the four [who swim]… a lot of times, getting used to someone else swimming in is really important. I may have three different back-strokers on the womens side who could be in the medley relay, so our breast-strokers have to be ready for three different tempos… and at conferences, you only get one relay, as opposed to other meets where you can have multiple. That gets tricky as well.”
