Megan Moroney’s ‘Cloud 9’ is enjoyable – The Ramapo Information

In the previous couple of weeks, that dreaded feeling of boredom of all of my traditional playlists has crept up on me once more.

Nothing appears to excite me or actually scratch that musical itch in my mind. With that, I swore I’d attempt to increase my musical horizons, and check out some new artists and albums I usually would’ve handed over. Up first is Megan Moroney’s latest album “Cloud 9.” 

I listened to “Cloud 9” high to backside on a stroll round campus, embracing the slight heat within the air that in comparison with the previous few weeks felt like 80 levels, and to be trustworthy — this album was the proper companion for the vibe I used to be attempting to attain. 

Moroney has made waves for herself within the nation music house previously few years, and whereas this has not usually been my first alternative of style, I can’t say I didn’t get pleasure from myself. There was the proper mixture of slower, sadder songs and upbeat girly anthems. 

The album kicks off with the titular monitor, “Cloud 9,” and it was at this second that I knew my stroll was going to fly by. Here, Moroney sings of a brand new love that makes you’re feeling such as you’re flying. 

“Gravity’s calling, ain’t picking up the phone / This view that I’ve got is the best that I’ve known / I blame you for no rocks in my shoes / This new attitude / Baby, I can’t lose.” Fun! No notes. 

On “6 Months Later,” Moroney laments about outdated flames crawling their method again into her life simply as she began to heal, predictably unpredictable. 

“The ‘Hey, Meg, I think I want you back / I’m a couple drinks in thinking it’s my bad / That I let you walk away and let you go’ / It’s a tale as old as time, I guess / When you couldn’t care more I couldn’t care less / You’re a little too late to the party, heartbreaker / What doesn’t kill you calls you six months later,” she sings within the refrain. It’s humorous and lighthearted and in some ways, relatable. 

Somewhat randomly, Ed Sheeran pops on a function on this album for “I Only Miss You,” and I’ve to say, I liked it. I’m unafraid to confess that I really like Ed Sheeran, and this monitor solely serves as additional proof of that. 

“I Only Miss You” is a really susceptible admission of not having the ability to escape lacking somebody, irrespective of how laborious you strive.  

“I only miss you when I’m breathing / And my face is far from blue / I only miss you when it’s raining / But this downpour ain’t nothing new / I only miss you when I’m lonely / And these days, I’m barely getting by / I only miss you when I’m drinking / And baby, I’ve been drinking / ‘Cause I miss you all the time,” the duo sings on the refrain. It is a bitter capsule to swallow, accepting that irrespective of how laborious you attempt to justify it or will it away, you continue to miss that individual with each ounce of you. 

My favourite track on the album, “Wedding Dress” comes proper after “I Only Miss You” and was one other sudden gut-punch. On this one, Moroney slows it down and will get painfully trustworthy a few previous love, begging that she received’t miss this individual ceaselessly — pleading to God to let her transfer on. 

“What if the missing you don’t ever go away? / What if you’re burned into my brain? / What if my heart’s already made up its mind? / And what if I find somebody new / And I’m about to say, ‘I do’ / Then out of the blue, I think of you?” Moroney asks. “So let me miss him now, but God don’t make me miss him in a wedding dress.” 

Now, if I’m completely trustworthy, this album didn’t wow me. Lots of the songs have blended into one in my thoughts, however that isn’t essentially unhealthy. Not each track, nor each album, has to reinvent the wheel. Sometimes they’ll simply sort of match proper in, and that’s what I feel “Cloud 9” does. It simply suits in with Moroney’s discography and the larger nation pop style. 

So, no, this album isn’t mind-blowing and received’t be my most listened to album of 2026 by a longshot, however I had a good time.
