Toby Wilcox broadcasts retirement from teaching

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Evansville (UE) Head Swimming and Diving Coach Toby Wilcox has introduced his retirement from the teaching occupation. Wilcox rejoined the Purple Aces program in 2024 following a 13-year tenure as head coach at Birmingham Southern. 
 
“It was such a great experience to return to the University of Evansville,” Wilcox stated. “Being able to reconnect with so many from the school, program, teammates, and student-athletes was a great way to finish out my coaching career!”
 
The 1985 UE graduate started his teaching profession with this system in 1986. He garnered eight convention “Coach of the Year” accolades throughout his collegiate profession.
 
After serving as an assistant coach with the Aces from 1986-88, Wilcox’s first time period as head coach at UE ran from 1988 via 1997. In 2011, he began the swimming and diving program at Birmingham Southern College (BSC) and remained with the establishment till 2024.
 
“Toby Wilcox has been an important part of the University of Evansville swimming and diving family for many years. In his time at BSC, Wilcox constructed this system right into a perennial energy within the Southern Athletic Association (SAA), incomes 16 SAA group titles on the lads’s and ladies’s sides. He has coached 121 particular person SAA champions, 57 SAA relay champions, and helped direct 35 student-athletes to the NCAA Division III National Championships.
 
During his tenure, Wilcox helped produce 13 SAA “Swimmers of the year,” seven SAA “Divers of the Year,” and 11 SAA “Newcomers of the Year.” Wilcox earned 5 SAA “Coach of the Year” honors throughout his tenure at Birmingham Southern.
 
Wilcox was a 3-time Midwestern Collegiate Conference Coach of the Year throughout his first tenure at Evansville. He coached 24 athletes to particular person titles and three MCC Swimmers of the Year. As a student-athlete at UE, Wilcox earned each MCC and Heartland Collegiate Conference MVP honors in 1984.
