Women’s Swimming and Diving Win First Ever National Championship

For the primary time ever, the New York University ladies’s swimming and diving staff are National Champions!

Competing on the NCAA Division III National Championships in Indianapolis, IN, the Violets got here out on prime with 517 factors. Behind them, Emory University adopted with 433.5 and Kenyon University rounded out the highest three with 380. 

“I couldn’t be more proud of this group. They’ve worked so hard all year, and it’s amazing to finally win the whole thing,” mentioned Head Coach Trevor Miele.

Miele was named College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association (CSCAA) Women’s Swimming Coach of the Year for the second time. Kaley McIntyre, who gained 5 nationwide titles this week, was named CSCAA Women’s Swimmer of the Year for the third consecutive season.  

McIntyre (48.53) defended her back-to-back titles within the 100 free on Saturday, racing out to a first-place end for the third 12 months in a row.
 
To open the night time, Bethany Spangler (17:00.88) positioned eighth general to earn All-American honors within the 1650 free. Teammates Aanya Wala (14:14.28) and Emery Muller (17:19.46) made All-American Second Team. 

Maeve O’Donnell (49.91) and Llew Ladomirak (50.41) positioned third and sixth, respectively, to earn All-America honors within the 100 free, whereas Lian Jeong Engle (50.53) and Nicole Ranile (51.01) collected All-American Second Team. 

Elise Emig (2:01.50) earned All-American standing with a Seventh-place end within the 200 again. 

In the 200 breast, Sammy Wong (2:18.12) positioned first within the comfort remaining, ninth general, and Babette Bradley (2:19.45) positioned twelfth as each achieved All-American Second Team. 

Meera Kasturi (432.75) completed twelfth within the 3-meter dive and picked up All-American Second Team accolades. 

“It was nice,” mentioned Head Diving Coach Todd Kolean. “Meera was awesome in an incredibly talented field.”

The Violets closed out the championship week with a National title within the 400 free relay. Jeong Engle, O’Donnell, Ladomirak, and McIntyre secured the first-place end with a time of three:18.66. 

“I can’t thank everyone enough for their hardwork and dedication, especially our seniors,” Miele added. “They’ve been the backbone of this team for the past four years and I’m so incredibly happy for them.”

McIntyre ends her monumental four-year NYU profession as a 15-time National Champion (11 particular person, 4 relay).
