Exploring how shelter animals get their wacky and enjoyable names

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – Many shelter animals arrive with names already hooked up, in accordance with Emily Bauman of the APA Adoption Center.

“A lot of the names of the pets in shelters came with them,” Bauman stated. “We have a lot of local and national partners we work with to transfer pets in. That’s where some of our funnier names come from.”

When animals arrive with out names, shelter workers assign them.

“Sometimes you can tell what someone might have been craving to eat,” Bauman stated.

One litter mirrored a workers member’s urge for food for baked items. Crunchy and her siblings, Celery and Cucumber, stay on the shelter, whereas Carrot has been adopted.

Some names are primarily based on look, like Bandit. Others draw from popular culture, together with Tommy Lee, whose companion, Pam Anderson, was adopted.

“Oftentimes, a group of puppies or kittens, there will be a theme to those names,” Bauman stated.

A litter named after the seven dwarves included Sneezy and Grumpy. Five different cats from that group, together with one named Snow White, have been adopted.

One cat’s title stays a thriller.

“This cat is named Slipperwitz,” Bauman stated. “No one knows where that name came from.”

Shelter workers stated many adopters change their animals’ names after they take them dwelling, however the uncommon names serve a goal.

“Maybe they’re on our social media or web page and think, that cat has a funny name. I’ve been thinking about getting a cat. Maybe I’ll get that one,” Bauman stated.
