I’ve been interested by the number of lenses obtainable for various methods. Some photographers appear to gather dozens of choices, whereas others insist {that a} small handful of prime lenses is all anybody must cowl the whole lot from broad angles to portraits.
If you aren’t capturing specialised topics like skilled sports activities or excessive wildlife, what number of lenses do you discover you really use frequently? I’m curious if having a plethora of selections really helps your work or if it simply makes the bag too heavy to hold.
It looks like most conditions might be dealt with with simply three or 4 good items of glass. Would you be pleased with a extra restricted choice if the standard was excessive sufficient?

Travel gentle with two primes (broad and zoom). Quality glass beats carrying a heavy bag of unused gear lol.

My first two 35mm cameras have been rangefinder cameras, every with a set 45mm lens, then I bought an SLR as a result of I often wanted/wished a {normally longer} totally different focal size. Recently I made a decision that I had ‘over-reacted’ and now I’ve a compact digicam with an oldish ILC for these {uncommon} events after I want/need a totally different focal size – much like your answer.

My pondering is that with the holy trinity (14-24, 24-70, 70-200) you might be fairly effectively lined. Depending on what you shoot, a 150-600 and a macro ought to cowl the whole lot.

It could be the model(s) of your selecting. Mine are all Tamron for my DSLRs. When I bought a mirrorless digicam I used to be buying Nikon lenses till I made a decision I didn’t actually just like the digicam so I solely have 2 lenses for that one.
The level is to have the vary protection obtainable for any scenario.
When I used to be touring I took all of the lenses and barely did a lens not get used.

Depends lol.
I’ve lenses for no matter scenario I determine to shoot. Astrophotography, panorama, avenue, birding, macro, quick primes for low gentle household features, and so on.
Start with what you’re snug with and slowly develop your assortment. I have a tendency to make use of a big portion of my lenses since I attempt to get out on the weekends with objective and use them.

I’ve the holy quadrinity: 14-24-70-200-500
The 14-24 is an effective lens however very inconvenient. It will get little use.
The 200-500 is an effective lens and will get a number of use from me.
