Woodland Camera Forum set to host presentation with Brett Chulada on Aug. 17 – Each day Democrat

The Woodland Camera Forum will current a present of pictures by Davis photographer Brett Chulada, on Monday, Aug. 17 at 7 p.m. in Woodland. The location is on the Living Hope Church, 240 N. West St., Woodland.

Chulada is a artistic photographer specializing in panorama and nature pictures. His pictures are targeted on the pure fantastic thing about the assorted Northern California areas he has lived in and explored.

“My interest in photography began about a decade ago. In 2015, after 15 years in San Francisco chasing a dream of being a career musician and grinding as a waiter to support myself, I decided to drop everything and essentially fled the city altogether,” Chulada mentioned. “My escape strategy involved joining a work exchange program called WWOOF (Worldwide workers on organic farms, an organization that facilitates living and working on independent farms and properties in Northern California and throughout the world). This program ultimately plucked me from from the stress-garden that is the Bay Area and planted me in the fresh fields of a converted dairy farm in Sonoma County.”

Chulada continues: “Spurned by attractive new environments and the time to explore them, I began documenting my adventures with iPhone and learning-by-doing photo-editing. After an initial two months in Penngrove, I found myself on the Sonoma Coast where I remained for the next few years, living and working on a 1,000-acre vineyard property north of Jenner. There I worked part time in the tasting room and spent the rest sauntering about the vast property or driving up and down HWY 1 exploring this incredible part of the world.”

“After 4 years on the coast I migrated to the Santa Cruz Mountains and as well spent some time in Carmel Valley before moving back to my hometown of Davis in 2024. While in Santa Cruz I acquired my first DSLR and began shooting mostly with that but have found that sometimes the iPhone camera still does a good job of it, depending on the circumstances. I call it “big gun, little gun”.

“Since returning to Davis, my photography habit often leads me out along Putah Creek, takes me driving along the backroads of Yolo County and up into the Vaca Mountains.”

“I hope this presentation serves to provide an interesting visual summary of these regions as well as telling some of the stories of my experiences living in and photographing them.”
