School Spirit Fridays return with Neshaminy High School Marching Band

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — A brand new fall season has arrived, and with it comes the return of 6abc’s School Spirit Fridays, which is now in its third yr of spotlighting native highschool marching bands.

Neshaminy High School opened this yr’s celebration with a showcase of pupil expertise.

Neshaminy’s marching band options 90 musicians, every contributing to what Band Director Michael Pettis described as the varsity’s signature model.

“Oh, that’s Neshaminy, that’s Neshaminy. It’s both graceful with respect, but also they love to have fun. They love to do things well,” Pettis stated.

Students say the expertise teaches self-discipline whereas balancing lecturers, rehearsals and the joy of performing for Friday night time crowds.

“You learn so much things about work ethic and discipline,” stated senior drum main Vic Chen.

Senior and marching band president Jenna Smith stated the environment modifications when the band performs throughout soccer video games. “It brings such a different level of spirit when we’re playing songs in the stands,” she stated.

The coloration guard provides a visible layer to the efficiency, senior Kara McMullen stated. “The color guard brings the colors. It’s so much fun. We are a visual of what they play.”

With the primary day of college approaching, college students say they’re longing for the season forward, even these experiencing their last yr within the band.

“I’m so sad, it’s my last year, but I’m so excited to see how this is going to go,” stated senior Pit part chief Shannon MacBride.
