Malachi Robinson: Fallen Airman will get NC hero homecoming from Patriot Guard Riders in Fayetteville

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WTVD) — The physique of Airman First Class Malachi Robinson, 24, arrived in Fayetteville on Wednesday following his demise in a swimming accident in Italy.

Family members, fellow veterans, and native supporters gathered at Fayetteville Regional Airport to pay their respects.

A present of help was evident as Robinson’s flag-draped casket arrived, with organizations together with the Patriot Guard Riders standing in tribute.

“We’ve lost another one,” stated Robert White, assistant state captain for the Patriot Guard Riders Sandhills Chapter.

White, who often participates in ceremonies honoring fallen service members, described the emotional toll of those moments.

“It’s tough, especially talking to the spouse or the mother or father. You get a little connection with them. And once they start, sometimes we start tears, tears rolling.”

White stated the Patriot Guard Riders reply to households’ requests, standing with flags throughout visitation and escorting the physique to the cemetery.

“We got all veterans and non-veterans here to show their honor for this young man,” he added. “You just show up, show honor, dignity to the fallen and the family.”

Robinson served as a weapons loader with the 555th Aircraft Maintenance Unit Weapons part, assigned to the thirty first Aircraft Maintenance Squadron at Aviano Air Base.

He was swimming at Lake Barcis, about half-hour north of the bottom, on August 8 when he disappeared underneath the water and didn’t resurface.

Italian rescue groups responded and recovered his physique at 7:35 p.m.

According to a web-based Italian journey web site, swimming is strictly regulated or prohibited in giant components of the lake resulting from sudden temperature drops and hidden underwater currents attributable to the dam.

The thirty first Fighter Wing is supporting Italian authorities as they proceed their investigation into the circumstances of Robinson’s demise.
