Powerful photographs captured by novice {and professional} photographers from round Australia have been chosen as finalists for one of many nation’s largest photograph competitions in Sydney.
Selected from greater than 2,400 entries, 20 photographs for the Australian Life images competitors depict the spirit, range and resilience of contemporary Australia. The finalist photographs cowl all the pieces from cultural connections, on a regular basis individuals and passions to random encounters, seashores and tragedy.
Sydney Square, beside Sydney Town Hall on George Street, shall be reworked right into a free, out of doors exhibition showcasing the finalist photographs from 25 September to 11 October 2026.
“For 24 years, Australian Life has been a platform for photographers across the country to share compelling visual stories that capture the unique character of our country and its people,” stated Lord Mayor of Sydney, Clover Moore AO.
“We open Australian Life to photographers of all backgrounds and experience levels, making it one of the country’s most inclusive photography prizes.”
“These finalist images reveal moments that are deeply personal, uniquely Australian and universally relatable. Together, they create an exhibition that portrays the people, places and experiences that shape Australia’s identity.”
Finalists have been chosen by a distinguished panel comprising award-winning photojournalist and visuals editor at The Guardian Australia Carly Earl, acclaimed movie and tv producer Melissa Azizi, and Yorta Yorta photographer and photojournalist Joseph Mayers.
The winner of the competitors shall be introduced on the opening of the exhibition and can obtain a $10,000 money prize. Visitors to the exhibition can vote for his or her favorite picture. The People’s Choice Award shall be introduced on 9 October and the winner will obtain an OM SYSTEM digital camera package deal valued at $5,300.
