BRATTLEBORO — Karl Denson will not go as far as to say he invented the fashionable jam-band style.

“We like to get people dancing. “We may hear (something) we think would be a cool song to adapt to the brass band style, and we just play it and see how it works out,” Frazier says. “And then we always try to keep in mind that we have to let people know where the music came from. We always play traditional brass band music, but we try to throw in a song by the Meters, something by Louis Armstrong. We try to play music that people who are not familiar with New Orleans music can identify with. So something that’s popular on the radio, we’ll play it, adapt it to our band, and they’ll see how this music has evolved through the course of years.”

Frazier stated the band sometimes approaches a present with out a agency setlist.

“We kind of get into the venue and kind of feel the room and see how everyone’s feeling. And we improvise all the time. Even though we’ve been playing “Do Whatcha Wanna” for more than 30 years, it’s never the same. There’s a lot of improvisation. There’s no right way or wrong way to do the music as long as you play in tune and play in the right key.”
