Fraud-accused suspended KwaZulu-Natal Correctional Services head Mnikelwa Nxele may soon face a lifestyle audit.
That’s according to testimony by his national counterpart, Makgothi Thobakgale, at the Madlanga Commission on Thursday.

Thobakgale revealed that in the past two financial years, all senior managers disclosed their financial interests except for Nxele.
Nxele is accused of receiving more than R14 million from a Bosasa-linked company to influence a tender in 2004, which he denies.
He’s been suspended and reinstated multiple times over the past decade and has received compensation.
His current suspension has been in place since May last year, when he claimed he was targeted for lifting the lid on tender fraud allegations against Thobakgale, who denied the claims when questioned on Thursday.
“There was no finding that he was a whistleblower and there was no finding that the National Commissioner was involved in those types of activities.”
Nxele returns to the Pietermaritzburg Magistrates Court on 26 November.
