From scholar to employees: Lanser joins the Badgers’ diving program as Coaching Assistant

MADISON, Wis. — 2026 graduate and former diver Jan Lanser has joined the Wisconsin Swim and Dive crew as a Coaching Assistant for the diving program, introduced by head coach Jack Brown.

“As a student-athlete, Jan was one of the most engaged members of our team. His enthusiasm is infectious, and his education in exercise science will only make him a better coach,” mentioned Brown. “I’m excited to see him pour his passion for diving and genuine care for people into our program. We’re going to be better with Jan on deck.”

Lanser beforehand competed 4 years with Wisconsin as a diver on the crew. In 2025 he certified for zones and earned honors as an Academic All-Big Ten honoree. 

Throughout his collegiate diving profession Lanser earned private bests within the 10-meter with 301.20 factors in opposition to Northwestern (Jan. 18, 2025), within the 1-meter with 304.13 factors in opposition to Minnesota (Nov. 1, 2024) and within the 3-meter with 290.85 factors in opposition to Notre Dame (Oct. 6, 2023). 

“I’m incredibly excited that Jan will continue supporting our program in this new role. He is someone who has always been eager to learn, and he has gained so much knowledge and experience throughout his diving career that will have a positive impact on our athletes,” diving coach Andrew Capobianco mentioned. “Jan also brings a unique energy and enthusiasm to the pool deck that I know will elevate our team moving forward.”

Lanser is a Wisconsin native from West Bend to folks John and Ann Marie Lanser.

Before coming to Wisconsin, Lanser earned honors for East High School as three-time all-state, two-time All-American, three-time North Shore Conference Diver of the Year and 2021 WIAA Diver of the Year.
