ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT Women’s Soccer squad was honored with the United Soccer Coaches College Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Silver Award on Tuesday.

The accolade acknowledges teams that demonstrate fair conduct, sportsmanlike behavior, and compliance with the rules of the game, as indicated by the quantity of yellow warning cards or red expulsion cards received from referees throughout the season, calculated by dividing the number of cards accumulated by the number of matches played (for instance, 5 cards divided by 20 matches played results in 0.25 or 25%, which meets the criteria for a Silver Award).

In 2024, RIT accumulated just three yellow cards and no red cards over the course of 18 matches, averaging .17 yellow cards per game.

Overall, 64 men’s and women’s teams garnered either the gold, silver, or bronze tier of the College Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award. Two teams were awarded the Gold Award, which is bestowed upon teams achieving a percentage of cards between 1-10%. A total of 30 teams earned the Silver Award, granted to teams that gather a percentage of cards between 11-30%, while the remaining 32 teams received the Bronze Award, which is given to those accumulating a percentage of cards from 31-50%.
