Game Kickoff

The Owls achieved their initial conference victory of the season with a 97-74 triumph over UAB on Sunday, and are set to face ECU in the Liacouras Center on New Year’s Day.

Updates & Highlights

• The Owls attained a 97-74 victory against UAB on Sunday afternoon.

• Tarrioynna Gary reached over 1,000 points in the game against UAB with nine points, three rebounds, and two assists.

• Molina recorded a career-best 17 points and 10 rebounds, marking her first double-double.

• Temple dominated the rebounding battle against UAB, 41-27, while scoring 42 points in the paint as opposed to the Blazers’ 24 points.

• Temple took advantage of UAB’s 12 turnovers in the first half, converting them into 19 points.

• Jaleesa Molina finished 7-7 from the foul line. The last time an Owl achieved perfection from the line was in 2023 when Tiarra East went 9-9 against Ole Miss.

• Temple will head to Tampa, Fla., to face USF on Sunday, January 4.

Examining the Pirates

• ECU is coming off an 84-93 defeat on the road to Tulsa to commence conference play.

• Prior to the loss against Tulsa, ECU was riding a five-game winning streak that began on December 8, when the Pirates overcame Elon 60-43.

• Amiya Joyner (16.2 points) and Jayla Hearp (11.4 points) are both averaging double-digit scoring for ECU.

• In the contest against Tulsa, the Pirates had four players score in double digits: Jayla Hearp (21 points), Khia Miller (13 points), Amiya Joyner (12 points), and Tatyana Wyche (10 points).

• ECU remains unbeaten at home this season, holding a 6-0 record with victories over Charleston Southern, Furman, Howard, Elon, VCU, and UNCW.

• In last year’s encounter versus Temple, ECU suffered a 66-81 defeat at home.

• During the 2023-24 season, the Pirates concluded with a 19-14 overall record and a 9-9 mark in conference play.

Starting Strong

• Temple recorded a season-high shooting percentage of 72% (13-18) from the field in the opening quarter. The Owls also attempted eight free throws in the first quarter, the highest total all season.

• The Owls went 18-20 from the free-throw line against UAB, achieving a free-throw percentage of 90%, the most efficient percentage since 2023 against UCF.

• Temple’s 34 points scored in the first quarter were the highest in a quarter since February of the 2023-24 season against UAB (32 points).

• Four Owls netted double-digit points: Tiarra East (21), Jalessa Molina (17), Anissa Rivera (13), and Tristen Taylor (13).

New Achievements

• Tiarra East and Tarriyonna Gary have both achieved key milestones in their careers, surpassing 1000 career points.

• Tiarra East is now ranked 25th on Temple’s all-time scoring leaderboard with 1,041, only one point shy of 24th place and two points from 23rd. With an average of 16 points per contest, she has scored over 20 points five times this season.

• Tarriyonna Gary is on pace to move to fifth place in Temple’s all-time three-pointers list, having made over 200 three-point shots.
