BLACKSBURG – No. 10 Virginia Tech (38-8, 12-6 ACC) fell to Georgia Tech in the series finale, 9-7, on Sunday at Tech Softball Park.

How It Happened
The Hokies and Yellow Jackets traded home runs through the opening three innings. Georgia Tech blasted a three-run home run on the top of the first to take an early lead before Michelle Chatfield punched back with a solo shot of her own to cut the deficit to 3-1. A solo shot from the Yellow Jackets made it 4-1 in the top of the third, while a solo long ball from Jordan Lynch cut the deficit once more to 4-2 through three innings.
Georgia Tech recorded three runs in the top of the fourth to extend the lead to 7-2. An RBI triple from Addison Foster scored another Hokie run in the bottom of the fourth, but the Yellow Jackets did not let up and scored twice in the top of the fifth to extend the lead to 9-3.
The Hokies rallied back in the later innings but were unable to tie the game. With the bases juiced, Chatfield ripped a 2-RBI single through the left side to cut the deficit to 9-5.
In the bottom of the seventh with a runner on, Gaby Mizelle’s seventh home run of the season made it a two-run ball game. The Hokies threatened to complete the comeback with runners on first and second but could not bring them home.
